Occupational Therapy

Big Sky Therapy, Occupational Therapy for children

Step 1: Referral

You do not need a doctor’s referral for the initial discussion.

At the initial discussion we will have a chat about your child’s needs and goals.

Please contact us for a free initial discussion.

Step 2: Assessment and Goal Setting

An assessment identifies a child’s strengths and difficulties, exploring the reasons for a child’s difficulties. We discuss this with you and your child to help target relevant goals for intervention.

Some examples of assessments:

  • School readiness
  • Fine motor skills
  • Handwriting and writing skills
  • Gross motor skills
  • Play skills
  • Social skills
  • Self care skills
  • Sensory processing
  • Executive functioning for participation in everyday activities
  • Transition to preschool, primary or high school.

Step 3: Occupational Therapy

Therapy is aimed at reaching the child’s goals by:

  • Teaching the child the step by step process for learning skills – using their thinking skills, one step at a time.
  • Improving the child’s ability to organise sensory input from their body and their environment.
  • Providing opportunities for practice at home, school and in the community.
  • We see the most improvement when the child practices between sessions in everyday situations.
  • We work in partnership with you and your child and it’s important we work as a team with other people who may be a part of your child’s life such as speech pathologists, doctors and teachers.

Therapy can take place in the clinic, school, or online.

Goals will be reviewed at the end of the agreed amount of therapy sessions.
